With nearly forty years of valuable plumbing experience, Gary Hamilton joins the IAPMO board as a labor director-at-large. A truly accomplished plumbing professional, Hamilton currently serves as an international representative for the UA. He is licensed by the state of Wisconsin as a journeyman plumber, certified plumbing inspector, and designer of engineering systems.
Winning the Wisconsin Plumbing Apprentice of the Year award in 1971, Hamilton represented Wisconsin in the UA National Contest. This set the stage for his successful career; upon completing his apprenticeship, he began working as a plumbing instructor, teaching apprentices and journeymen for the next ten years. A demonstrated leader, Hamilton was elected as a business representative for Local 75 for four consecutive terms beginning in 1982, and then as business manager and financial secretary/treasurer for two consecutive terms beginning in 1995. He began serving as a special representative for the UA in 1999 and became an international representative in 2004. Hamilton administers the UA National Residential Program.
Hamilton has held multiple offices and positions in the plumbing industry. He has served as secretary/treasurer of the Wisconsin Pipe Trades Association, secretary/treasurer of the Wisconsin State Building Trades, and chairman of the Wisconsin State Plumbing Code Advisory Committee. Hamilton was chairman of the Wisconsin State Plumbing Apprenticeship Committee and was appointed by the state of Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development to serve on the Wisconsin Apprenticeship Council. He has served on the board of directors for Waukesha County Technical College and the Waukesha County Economic Development Corp. In addition, he has served as a hearing officer for the UA and as a trustee to the UA National Joint Plumbing Apprentice and Journeyman Training Committee. He is currently the chairman of the UA Plumbing Council.
Working assiduously for his local, Hamilton served as the secretary/treasurer of Local 75 Health Fund, on the executive board of the Milwaukee Building Trades Pension Fund, and secretary of Local 75 Joint Apprenticeship Committee. His work on behalf of others does not end there; he was elected to the board of directors of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, was a speaker at many conferences, and worked to establish Local 75’s 401(k) plan, one of the first ever multi-employer plans. Hamilton has also served on the advisory committee for the Waukesha Women’s Development Center as well as on the Unemployment Compensation Committee on Independent Contractor Classification for the state of Wisconsin. A lifelong proponent of the plumbing industry, Hamilton also served as chairman of the Milwaukee-area Plumbing Career Advisory Committee, introducing high school students to plumbing careers.
Involved with IAPMO as a member of the Plumbing Technical Committee, Hamilton is excited about the opportunity to serve on the board of directors.
Hamilton and his wife Jackie have been married for forty-two years. They have two sons, Scott, who is married to Sheryl, and Ryan, who is married to Georgian. Gary and Jackie have two beautiful granddaughters, Brianna and Alexis.
