Mike Durfee, Director, Central
Michael Durfee is Chief Building Official/Section Manager for Salt Lake County, Utah, where he manages the Building and Code Enforcement Division of the Planning and Development Services Division. He is a veteran of 26 years in the industry, each of them spent as a member of IAPMO.
Durfee started working as a Building Inspector for the City of West Jordan, Utah, in 1982, where he received his Plumbing and Mechanical Certifications from IAPMO, Building Certification from ICBO and later his Electrical Certification from IAEI. He later accepted the job of Chief Building Official with the City of Tooele, Utah, a small jurisdiction, and held that position for nearly two years before being offered a job with Salt Lake County, where hes spent the past 16 years.
Durfee is Sergeant of Arms for the Utah Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (UAPMO), for which he has previously served as president and vice president. He serves on IAPMOs Product Certification and Standards Review Committee, the Solar Energy Code Committee, the Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tub Code Committee and numerous Ad Hoc Committees. He also frequently proctors exams for NITC and also maintains memberships in NFPA, ICC and IAEI.
Durfee served as a full- and part-time fire fighter from 1977 to 1998. He enjoys golf, archery, camping, riding ATVs and spending time at his familys cabin in the Fairview area. He and his wife, Nadine, will celebrate their 28th anniversary this year and have four children, Christopher, Robert, Michelle and Paul, and 13 grandchildren.
