Rick Coffman, Director

Rick Coffman

North Region District Director Rick Coffman brings nearly 35 years experience in the trades to his new post on the IAPMO Board of Directors. The Reinbeck, Iowa, native is Plumbing

Inspector for the City of Cedar Falls, Iowa, inspecting residential and commercial construction plumbing systems for conformance to the Uniform Plumbing Code®. He recently switched to plumbing after serving as Mechanical Inspector for the City since 1999. After graduating Reinbeck High School, Coffman started working as a plumber for A&B Plumbing in Des Moines, Iowa, before moving onto work as a machine operator, backhoe operator and welder for John Deere, PCI Contractors and Pioneer Seed Company. From 1982 to 1996, Coffman served as Lead Plumbing and Heating Technician for Lon’s Plumbing and Heating in Reinbeck, performing repair work as well as new home construction and installation of plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems. From 1996 to 1999, he was Lead Plumber for Russ Foth Plumbing in Cedar Falls before moving into his current position with the city.

An IAPMO member since 1999, Coffman joined the IAPMO Mechanical Workshop Committee the same year and has served consistently since that time.

“It’s a good opportunity to help IAPMO and guide the direction the association is going to go,” Coffman says of his election to the Board. “I’m really interested in the Uniform Codes and what they accomplish, but I don’t enter into this with any specific agenda.” Coffman says he views himself as a potential mediator on the Board; someone who can facilitate the introduction of many differing viewpoints among the board members.

Coffman and his wife, Lauri, have been married for 23 years. His interests include golfing, hunting, bicycling, motorcycles and spending time outdoors with his golden retriever, Medeaux.
