IAPMO COPYRIGHT USE-BEST PRACTICES

How to submit a usage request for approval   

Requests to use or reprint IAPMO material must be submitted in writing as follows:

1.       Your name, address, telephone number and email address.
2.       Your title, position and institution’s name.
3.       The date of your request.
4.       The title of the material to be copied, with a description and citation of that work.
5.       A description of how the material is to be used, by whom, and for how long.
6.       Fee involved for use of materials must be clearly stated.
7.       Copyright form filled out and signature of requestor, signifying that permission has been granted.
8.       Additional detailed information may be requested on any point.

IAPMO COPYRIGHT USE BEST PRACTICE

1.       IAPMO name and published materials are subject to trademark and copyright protection. To use IAPMO materials, a request must be submitted in writing to Departmental Director responsible for creation and maintenance of the document requested.
2.       IAPMO material may not be used to endorse a vendor, product, service, or to point out a vendor’s competitor as it may imply endorsement within the context of vendor materials.
3.       IAPMO materials may not be paraphrased. All excerpts must be lifted verbatim.
4.       IAPMO reserves the right to approve the appropriateness of the overall material requested.
5.       Tables, graphics etc. must be displayed exactly as the original with no edits or changes. No other content or commentary is permitted within table.
6.       Scanning or otherwise importing publications into an electronic storage/retrieval system is prohibited.
7.       Distribution of publications to other units of the requesting organization or to other external organizations through electronic data transmission systems is prohibited.
8.       Posting material on a website or intranet site without expressed permission is prohibited.

When permission is granted, IAPMO requires that proper attribution and disclaimer is included and, depending on the circumstances, that the material is reprinted with permission as follows:

Approvals if granted will always be in writing with the IAPMO Copyright Consent form filled out and with the above information requested. The proper procedure is to submit the request to the Department Director who is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the document.

Lynne Simnick in the Ontario Office is responsible for the Uniform Plumbing Code, Uniform Mechanical Code, Uniform Solar Energy Code, Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tub Code, California Plumbing and Mechanical Code.
Dave Viola in the Chicago Office is responsible for all International Codes, State and City Custom Codes, the Green Plumbing and Mechanical Code Supplement; support and educational documents.

Dave or Lynne may designate additional persons in their Department authorized to consider and approve these requests. In the absence of the Departmental Director or any additional approved person and in exceptional circumstances, the Senior Director of the IAPMO Business Unit (IBU), IAPMO Legal Department or CEO, will review the request. If the request involves a legal matter, or the Department Director has legal questions, the request should be submitted to the Senior Director of the IBU.

All requests and copyright forms must be maintained whether approved or not, in order to provide the documentation to protect IAPMO Intellectual Property. Each Departmental Director will make arrangements to facilitate permanent recordkeeping for the copyright consent form.
