GreenPlumbers® is an innovative training and accreditation program that assists plumbers, inspectors and other building officials in understanding their roles in the environment and public health.

Acquired by The IAPMO Group in April of 2011, the goal of GreenPlumbers Training and Accreditation is to train and deploy thousands of residential and commercial “green” plumbers to promote the benefits of water conservation and the reduction of GHG emissions. The focus is on changing consumer and plumbing behavior using energy efficient and water-saving technologies.

GreenPlumbers works within the plumbing industry and invites building officials, utilities and water agencies to implement the GreenPlumbers program. The training consists of a five-part accreditation in environmental and technical issues including Caring for our Water, Climate Care, Water Efficient Technology, Solar Hot Water and an Inspection Report Service. Since the first classes in late 2007 GreenPlumbers has trained more than 7,000 plumbers in more than 40 states.

GreenPlumbers will hold workshops across the United States when there is enough demand, with a goal of retraining 40,000 plumbers across North America. This has the potential for retrained plumbers to enter hundreds of thousands of properties per day to educate property owners on water conservation and to influence their purchasing decisions.

The original instructors include water expert John Koeller, hot water/energy expert Gary Klein, plumbing code instructor Doug Kirk, and water conservation expert Eddie Wilcut, all of whom have been instrumental in adapting the GreenPlumbers seminars for use in North America.

The IAPMO Group is uniquely positioned to provide the technical and educational expertise for water conservation components, while maintaining the integrity of the building and the health and safety of the occupants.
