Moses Chongo – CEO and President, Plumbers Association of Zambia (PAZA)
COVID-19 community handwashing
In 2020 the World Plumbing Council (WPC) connected IWSH and PAZA for a pilot program that provided approximately 30 mobile hand-washing stands to the SOS Children’s Village in the Zambian capital of Lusaka. Founded in 1999, SOS Children’s Village Lusaka cares for more than 220 children and has 15 family houses, four youth homes, and a kindergarten, primary school, high school and vocational training center.
Lusaka WASH Academy College
The first IWSH-PAZA memorandum of understanding centers on the Lusaka WASH Academy College (LWAC), the hub for PAZA activities and outreach across the region. LWAC recently moved premises, relocating to a new site within the African Future College in Lusaka, and upgrading accreditations with the Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority of Zambia (TEVETA). IWSH supported these registrations, plus the purchase of tools and resources for the upcoming academic year. IWSH and PAZA now aim to collaborate in the areas of vocational education and training development, women’s empowerment, codes and standards development, public health awareness, and other outreach activities that support the sustainable delivery of water, sanitation and hygiene services to underserved populations and communities in Zambia.
