Marty Cooper 

Marty Cooper graduated from the University of Arizona in 1982, and thereafter completed his apprenticeship with UA Local 38 in San Francisco. He worked as an apprentice and journeyman plumber for Cooper Bros. Plumbing. 

Cooper went on to own and operate Martin Cooper Plumbing from 1992 to 2002 and became a building inspector with the city of Foster City, Calif., in 2004.

Cooper is the Chief Building Official with the city of Foster City and also teaches building inspection with the College of San Mateo. Cooper has been active with IAPMO for several years. He has been an officer and chairman of the Central California chapter, is privileged to be chairman of the UMC Answers and Analysis Committee, serves on the Publications Committee, and previously served on the disbanded Certification Committee.

Prior to being elected to the IAPMO Board of Directors, Cooper was an alternate member of the UMC and UPC Technical Committees. 

Cooper holds plumbing and mechanical certifications from IAPMO, along with a CBO certification from ICC and a CASp certification from the state of California.

Cooper and his wife Janis have been married for 28 years. Their daughter, Felicia, is 26 and their son, Brandon, is 25. A native San Franciscan, Cooper enjoys attending 49er and Giant games with his son. In the winter, he looks forward to skiing in Tahoe.
