ASSE Seeks Working Group Members for Development of Four Professional Qualification Standards

Mokena, Illinois — ASSE International is seeking working group members to update four professional qualification standards: ASSE 13000 Standard for Service Plumber and Residential Mechanical Service Technician; ASSE 15000 Standard for the Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems; ASSE 27000 Standard for Hybrid Fire Extinguishing Systems Personnel; and ASSE 29000 Standard for Personnel Related to Safe Pressure Testing of Piping Systems.

ASSE professional qualification standard working group members will assist the Professional Qualifications Standards Committee (PQSC) with the continued development of these American National Standards. The working groups will operate in accordance with ASSE’s accredited procedures for standards development: IAPMO/ASSE PP-1 (Policies and Procedures for Consensus Development of American National Standards).

“These standards establish minimum performance criteria, agreed upon by industry consensus, for service plumbers, residential mechanical service technicians, inspectors, testers and maintainers of water-based and hybrid fire protections systems and will establish the minimum safety requirements for the testing of piping systems and also help ensure compliance with the referenced standards in each,” said IAPMO Director of Standards Development John Higdon.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 31. The first working group meetings will be held virtually before the end of the year.

Applications can be submitted through the following URL:
    https://asse-plumbing.org/membership/committees/working-group-application

Industry stakeholders — including installers, manufacturers, plumbing professionals, building owners and managers, engineers, AHJs, and the general public — are invited and encouraged to apply to participate.

Interested parties wishing to serve on ASSE working groups should send a completed application and a résumé to standards@iapmostandards.org by the Oct. 31 deadline. Contact John Higdon at (909) 218-8123 or by email at john.higdon@iapmo.org with any questions.
