Sertifikasi Personil Plumber
- Bekasi, Jawa Barat, Indonesia - PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia (IAPMO) dan PT. Wahana Duta Jaya Rucika (Rucika) telah menandatangani Memorandum of Understanding (Nota Kesepahaman) dengan tujuan untuk kerjasama dalam rangka peningkatan kompetensi personel di bidang Plambing .
  
  Langkah nyata dan komitmen kerjasama antara IAPMO dan Rucika yang tertuang dalam nota kesepahaman ini diantaranya adalah kegiatan pelatihan sistem plambing, sertifikasi personel untuk sistem plambing dan pengembangan standar terkait sistem dan produk plambing. Nota Kesepahaman ini ditandatangani oleh IAPMO Group Chief Technical Services Officer Tom Palkon dan disaksikan oleh jajaran manajemen PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia, termasuk Senior Vice President Shirley Dewi, di acara yang dilangsungkan di Rucika Institute.
  
  ”Kerjasama antara IAPMO dan Rucika ini merupakan tonggak penting tidak hanya bagi industri pipa dan peralatan plambing di Indonesia, namun juga untuk menciptakan lapangan kerja baru bagi pekerja terampil bersertifikat di Indonesia khususnya di bidang instalasi plambing”, ujar Palkon.
  
  ”Menggunakan plamber yang bersertifikat menjadi jaminan kualitas jaringan perpipaan. IAPMO adalah salah satu Lembaga sertifikasi profesi plambing yang sangat berpengalaman dan kerjasama ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran atas pentingnya pelaku dibidang plambing terhadap standar yang baik,” ujar Yustinus D. Sigit, Rucika Chief Commercial Officer Project Channel.
  
  IAPMO berkomitmen untuk meningkatkan kesehatan dan keselamatan bagi bangsa Indonesia melalui produk sistem plambing yang berkwalitas serta pemasangan produk plambing yang memenuhi standar. Banyak kerugian yang ditimbulkan dari kurangnya penerapan sistem plambing yang baik dan sesuai standar seperti pengolahan air yang tidak efisien dan air yang terkontaminasi dimana hal ini dapat menyebarkan banyak penyakit. Organisasi Kesehatan Dunia (WHO) memperkirakan bahwa 88% kasus diare diseluruh dunia disebabkan oleh air yang tidak aman dikonsumsi dan sanitasi yang tidak memadai.
  
  Sistem Plambing yang baik perlu didukung dengan produk yang berkwalitas serta instalasi yang memenuhi standar SNI 8153:2015 Sistem Plambing pada Bangunan Gedung agar sistem plambing tersebut dapat bertahan lama dan menghindarkan dampak buruk bagi kesehatan dan juga pada lingkungan. Dengan pengalaman hampir 100 tahun di bidang sistem plambing, IAPMO Group memiliki tujuan untuk meningkatkan kesehatan masyarakat, menjamin lingkungan dan menyediakan akses untuk air bersih melalui peningkatan kesadaran publik atas pentingnya peranan sistem plambing yang baik. Ditunjuk Sebagai Lembaga Sertifikasi
Produk Dalam Rangka Penerapan
SNI 579:2020 Wastafel Keramik
- Bekasi, Jawa Barat, Indonesia – Kepala Badan Standardisasi Nasional (BSN) kembali menunjuk PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia sebagai lembaga sertifikasi produk untuk penerapan SNI 579:2020 Wastafel Keramik, melalui SK 121/KEP/BSN/4/2024.
  
  “Wastafel berbahan dasar keramik memiliki tampilan yang menarik, akan tetapi material ini rentan pecah dan retak jika terbentur benda keras,” demikian disampaikan Shirley Dewi, Senior Vice President PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia. ”Dengan memiliki sertifikasi SNI, produsen akan terdorong untuk menciptakan produk yang memenuhi standar dan kriteria yang ditetapkan, serta berusaha mencari proses yang lebih efisien, efektif dan inovatif mulai dari pemilihan bahan baku, proses produksi, pengemasan dan distribusi sehingga dihasilkan produk yang berkualitas di mana produknya kompetitif di pasar.”
  
  Produk bersertifikasi SNI akan membantu konsumen memilih produk yang bersertifikat di mana telah memenuhi persyaratan pembatasan bahan-bahan yang berpotensi membahayakan kesehatan dan keselamatan masyarakat. Dari sisi konsumen, produk bersertifikasi SNI dapat melindungi konsumen dari membanjirnya barang-barang yang belum diketahui kualitasnya di pasaran.
  
  Sebagai Lembaga Penilaian Kesesuaian (LPK) dengan lingkup Wastafel Keramik PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia siap mendukung pelaku usaha dalam menerapkan standar SNI ini dengan menyediakan jasa pengujian dan sertifikasi produk tanda SNI sesuai dengan SNI 579:2020.

Green Toll Road Indonesia Perkenalkan
Skema Sertifikasi Berkelanjutan

- Cikarang, Indonesia (Feb. 21, 2024) — Green Toll Road Indonesia, sebuah program yang dikelola oleh Green Product Council Indonesia (GPCI), otoritas terkemuka dalam mempromosikan infrastruktur berkelanjutan, dengan bangga mengumumkan kemitraan strategisnya dengan PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia untuk memperkenalkan skema sertifikasi inovatif untuk jalan tol berkelanjutan di Indonesia.
  
  Kolaborasi ini bertujuan untuk membangun skema sertifikasi "Jalan Tol Hijau Indonesia", sebuah inisiatif perintis yang dirancang untuk memastikan bahwa proyek jalan tol di seluruh negeri mematuhi standar lingkungan yang tinggi, memprioritaskan praktik ramah lingkungan, dan berkontribusi pada tujuan pembangunan berkelanjutan Indonesia.
  
  Fitur Utama Skema Sertifikasi Green Toll Road Indonesia:
  1. Tanggung Jawab Lingkungan:
  - Skema sertifikasi berfokus pada penilaian dan promosi proyek jalan tol yang menunjukkan komitmen terhadap tanggung jawab lingkungan. Ini termasuk penggunaan bahan yang berkelanjutan, infrastruktur hemat energi, dan praktik pengurangan limbah.
  2. Praktik Konstruksi Ramah Lingkungan:

Geomembran Polietilena dan Geocell Polietilena
- Bekasi, Jawa Barat, Indonesia — PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia telah ditunjuk oleh Badan Standardisasi Nasional (BSN) sebagai Lembaga Sertifikasi Produk pertama di Indonesia untuk sertifikasi SNI 9166:2023 geomembran polietilena dan SNI 9167:2023 geocell polietilena. Penunjukan ini berdasarkan pada Surat Keputusan Kepala Badan Standardisasi Nasional No. 474/KEP/BSN/11/2023.
  
  Geomembran dan geocell banyak digunakan pada berbagai proyek kontruksi. Geomembran dan geocell banyak digunakan dalam berbagai proyek konstruksi. Bagi kebanyakan orang istilah geomembran dan geocell mungkin terdengar asing, namun sangat bermanfaat. Geomembran adalah garis atau penghalang membran sintetis dengan permeabilitas rendah yang digunakan untuk mengontrol migrasi cairan dalam proyek, struktur, atau sistem buatan manusia. Geocell digunakan dalam konstruksi untuk mengurangi erosi, menstabilkan tanah, melindungi saluran, dan memberikan penguatan struktural untuk menopang beban dan retensi tanah.

IAPMO Group Indonesia dapat menawarkan sertifikasi untuk SNI 9166:2023 geomembran polietilena dan SNI 9167:2023 geocell polietilena untuk membantu memastikan masyarakat Indonesia bisa memperoleh geomembran dan geocell yang berkualitas baik dan bersertifikat SNI.

- Bekasi, Jawa Barat, Indonesia - PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia telah ditunjuk oleh Kementerian Perindustrian Republik Indonesia sebagai Lembaga Penilaian Kesesuaian dengan kapabilitas sertifikasi dan pengujian untuk produk kaca berdasarkan Standar Nasional Indonesia sebagai berikut:
  - SNI 15 – 1326 – 2005 Kaca Pengaman Berlapis – Kaca Pengaman untuk Kendaraan Bermotor,
  - SNI 15 – 0048 – 2005 Kaca Pengaman Diperkeras – Kaca Pengaman untuk Kendaraan Bermotor.
  - SNI 15 – 4756 – 1998 Cermin Kaca Lembaran Berlapis Alumunium,
  - SNI ISO 25537:2011 Kaca untuk Bangunan – Cermin Kaca Lembaran Berlapis Perak, dan

  Penunjukan ini berdasarkan pada Surat Keputusan Menteri Perindustrian No. 4057 tahun 2023.
  
  Melalui penunjukkan ini PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia dapat menawarkan sertifikasi SNI untuk produk kaca kepada pelaku usaha kaca. Perlu diketahui bahwa semua produk kaca yang dijual di pasar Indonesia wajib memiliki Sertifikat Penggunaan Tanda SNI (SPPT-SNI). Dengan demikian PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia telah siap untuk membantu pelaku usaha produk kaca di Indonesia dan juga meningkatkan infrastruktur di Indonesia.

pada Acara Peresmian Laboratorium
- Cikarang, Indonesia – PT IAPMO Group Indonesia, laboratorium pengujian produk dan sertifikasi milik IAPMO Group di Indonesia, hari ini mengadakan acara peresmian laboratorium pipa dan resin polimer, dengan menunjukkan fasilitas terbarunya kepada pejabat pemerintah dan pemimpin asosiasi industri yang mana merupakan mitra dalam penilaian kesesuaian dan sertifikasi produk petrokimia.
  
  Acara peresmian yang mengangkat tema “Kesiapan Industri dan Infrastruktur Penilaian Kesesuaian di Bidang Produk Plastik Plambing dan Material Plastik untuk Mendukung Sustainability Development Goals (SDG)” tersebut menyelaraskan PT IAPMO Group Indonesia dengan Peraturan Presiden No. 12 Tahun 2021 tentang Pengadaan Barang atau Jasa Pemerintah yang mengutamakan produk dalam negeri, produk yang memiliki SNI dan sertifikat produk ramah lingkungan.
  
  Acara tersebut dihadiri oleh Drs. Kukuh S. Achmad, M.Sc., selaku Kepala Badan Standardisasi Nasional (BSN), perwakilan Kedutaan Besar Amerika Serikat, Kementerian Perindustrian (Kemenperin), Kementerian Pekerjaan Umum dan Perumahan Rakyat (PUPR), Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan (KLHK), Kementerian Perdagangan (Kemendag) dan para pemimpin industri serta asosiasi yang terkait dengan plambing dan plastik polimer.
  
  PT IAPMO Group Indonesia adalah lembaga penilaian kesesuaian (LPK) dengan berbagai skema akreditasi, seperti sistem manajemen untuk ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 dan ISO 37001; sertifikasi produk untuk SNI dan ekolabel; inspeksi; sertifikasi personel; dan pengujian produk, khususnya untuk pengujian produk plambing dan material bangunan sesuai dengan berbagai metode pengujian seperti SNI, ISO, ASTM, ASME, dll. Sebagai LPK yang kompeten, PT IAPMO Group Indonesia menjawab tantangan pembangunan infrastruktur dengan mengembangkan laboratorium pengujian untuk pipa plastik (PVC dan PE) dan resin plastik (PVC, PE, PP).
  
  “Dengan diakreditasi oleh KAN, artinya Laboratorium telah berada pada suatu bagian dari satu komunitas internasional, yang diakreditasi oleh Badan-Badan Akreditasi penandatangan MRA dari lebih dari 100 negara di dunia, salah satunya Indonesia melalui KAN,” ujar Kukuh.
  
  Fasilitas pengujian PT IAPMO Group Indonesia meliputi pengujian karakteristik geometrik, mekanik, fisik, dan kimia pipa PVC dan fitting untuk air minum dan air limbah, pipa PE dan fitting untuk air minum, dan pipa PE untuk instalasi gas. Pengujian tambahan yang dilakukan untuk bahan baku resin plastik meliputi pengujian fisik, mekanik, dan kimia untuk resin PVC, PE, dan PP. Kemampuan pengujian laboratorium lainnya terkait dengan kelestarian lingkungan, seperti kandungan logam berat (Pb, Cd, Hg, Cr6+), migrasi total, migrasi spesifik, dan kandungan bahan daur ulang, terutama untuk resin PET daur ulang, yang banyak digunakan dalam kemasan botol kemasan air/minuman.
  
  Industri petrokimia merupakan salah satu sektor yang memiliki prioritas tinggi untuk dikembangkan berdasarkan roadmap Making Indonesia 4.0. Industri ini merupakan salah satu sektor hulu yang menyediakan bahan baku bagi hampir semua sektor hilir, seperti industri plastik, pipa, tekstil otomotif, cat, kosmetik, dan farmasi; oleh karena itu, pembangunan keberlanjutan industri petrokimia sangat penting bagi perekonomian.
  
  Indonesia berpotensi menjadi pusat pertumbuhan industri petrokimia sehingga industri petrokimia Indonesia dapat bersaing di tingkat ASEAN dan Asia.
  
  Pembangunan infrastruktur yang pesat, khususnya untuk ibu kota baru, Ibu kota Negara (IKN) Nusantara, mendorong pertumbuhan ekonomi. Salah satu tujuan pembangunan infrastruktur tersebut adalah program pemerintah di dalama Rencana Pembangunan Jangka Menengah Nasional yang mana memuat target 10 juta sambungan air minum dan gas alam untuk rumah tangga. Infrastruktur penilaian kesesuaian sangat penting dalam menilai kepatuhan terhadap persyaratan untuk memastikan bahwa produk yang digunakan aman, ramah lingkungan dan tidak berdampak buruk bagi Kesehatan.

Standar Keran Air Suplai Untuk
Keperluan Domestik (SNI 122:2022)
- Standar keran air suplai untuk keperluan domestik, SNI 122:2022, telah ditetapkan oleh Badan Standardisasi Nasional (BSN) berdasarkan Surat Keputusan Kepala BSN Nomor 213/KEP/BSN/7/2022 sebagai Revisi dari SNI 03-0122-1998 Keran Air Rumah Tangga Jenis Katup Pintu.
  
  Revisi standar ini diprakarsai oleh Asosiasi Plambing Nasional (APIN). Pengembangan standar dilakukan oleh Komite Teknis 77-02 dari Pusat Perumusan, Penerapan, dan Pemberlakuan Standardisasi Industri, Badan Standardisasi dan Kebijakan Industri Kementerian Perindustrian. Pengembangan standar ini sebagian didanai oleh hibah dari program USAID/ANSI Standards Alliance.
  
  Ruang lingkup produk dalam standar ini mencakup 15 jenis produk keran yaitu: (1) Keran bak rendam; (2) Keran bidet; (3) Keran suplai mesin cuci pakaian; (4) Keran pancuran air minum; (5) Keran dapur; (6) Keran wastafel; (7) Keran taman/tembok; (8) Keran otomatis; (9) Keran pancuran kepala; (10) Keran pancuran kepala dengan efisiensi tinggi; (11) Keran pancuran genggam; (12) Keran pancuran genggam dengan efisiensi tinggi; (13) Keran pancuran badan; (14) Keran pancuran badan efisiensi tinggi; dan (15) Stop Keran.
  
  Standar SNI 122:2022 terdiri dari persyaratan desain, persyaratan mutu dan unjuk kerja. Untuk persyaratan unjuk kerja, salah satu parameter adalah siklus pakai (life cycle) yang ditetapkan sesuai dengan jenis keran dan lokasi penggunaannya, misalnya untuk keran wastafel yang digunakan pada lokasi publik dan privat.
  
  Terkait dengan produk keran efisiensi tinggi, parameter yang dilihat adalah melalui laju aliran (flow rate). Laju aliran untuk keran dengan efisiensi tinggi disesuaikan dengan Peraturan Menteri PUPR No. 21 Tahun 2021 tentang Penilaian Kinerja Bangunan Gedung Hijau (BGH). Untuk itu diharapkan kedepannya keran dengan efisiensi tinggi yang memenuhi parameter laju aliran dapat digunakan untuk mendukung penggunaan pada bangunan gedung hijau.

GP Russ Chaney sebagai CEO IAPMO
- Hari ini Dewan Direksi IAPMO mengumumkan bahwa Chief Operating Officer/Executive Vice President IAPMO Dave Viola telah diangkat menjadi chief executive officer efektif 1 Januari 2021, menggantikan GP Russ Chaney, yang pensiun setelah seperempat abad memimpin dari asosiasi berusia 95 tahun. Sesuai dengan Peraturan Menteri Perindustrian Republik Indonesia Nomor 11/M-IND/PER/2/2016, semua pipa air baja dengan atau tanpa lapisan seng harus disertifikasi dengan standar ini agar dapat dijual di pasar Indonesia.

Week Concludes with Local Endorsement
- The International Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Foundation’s (IWSH) Community Plumbing Challenge (CPC) program has completed its latest installment, a Design Week project in the coastal village of Kampung Nelayan Untia.
  
  An intensive four-day assignment concluded Thursday with a presentation to Untia community authorities and local residents. All Design Team members were involved, and they presented a proposal for a new public facility for Untia village that features new toilets, a new handwashing area, a new water supply system, and a new wastewater system.
  
  Badan Standardisasi Nasional (BSN), the Indonesian standardization body, and IWSH will take the proposals, which were met with support by the local village leaders, to relevant government departments for final approval. It is anticipated this will set off a process toward an ambitious construction project around May 2020, after the passing of the annual wet season in the region. Dates and schedule for the proposed construction project next year will be announced as necessary approvals are confirmed.
  
  “I am thankful that this program has run so well this week, and up to the final design presentation. Hopefully it can be implemented well too, in the next year,” said Taufiq Hidayat, Head of Technical Services for BSN, in Makassar. “To the IWSH team: Thank you so much for organizing so well and thank you for inviting the field experts to complete this Design Week. We, from BSN, are committed to facilitating the needs for this CPC in the next year like collaborating with the local government to support this program.”
  
  “This activity is really positive since it focuses on social aspects such as sanitation, hygiene, and health, which are in accordance with standards,” added Putri Irvanna, Technical Services Officer at BSN Makassar. “I think the presentation is good since the team has given clear explanation to local people, and educated on how to use and maintain the proposed facilities.”

- A key objective of the Community Plumbing Challenge (CPC) program is the development of sustainable collaborations that change attitudes, raise awareness, and deliver real health benefits related to improved water, sanitation and hygiene conditions for communities in need. The newest installment of the CPC Indonesia program has reinforced these aims with a series of community consultations and meetings over the first three days of its latest Design Week — discussing implications for the new public toilet and wash facility being proposed with village leaders and local residents alike.
  
  “Firstly, I think that this project is really helpful for local people here. In reality, if this project is implemented, it will help the family who has more members to use the toilet provided since they only have one toilet in their house,” said Andi Patiroi, Untia Village Head (Lurah Untia). “I also believe that this project is highly contributive for the tourism here. It can attract more people by the facilities provided.
  
  “The response of local people here is really positive and good,” Patiroi continued. “It is because they have been expecting and waiting for the project like this. We have been helped previously but it did not really work because we ran out of water, so we ignore to maintain the toilet. But we are really glad that this project comes to us. After this project is implemented, we are committed to maintaining it by coordinating with all elements in this place like local people, village head, and other parties. It will be our pride.”
  During this intensive assignment in Untia village, Design Team members have been encouraged to connect with local residents at every possible opportunity. On day three, the group visited local elementary school SDN Inpres Lae-Lae 2, where they presented a range of games and activities promoting handwashing and personal hygiene among the children. Additional outreach like this is vital in building greater understanding and rapport with local families, which in turn enhances design and construction considerations around the new toilet and wash facility being delivered.
  
  “In my perspective, and local people’s perspective, we feel so happy and glad to see this CPC project,” said Dinasuddin Buwai, an Untia resident and coordinator with the community empowerment body Ketua LPM Untia. “We give our warm welcome and we are ready to fulfill the needs for the sake of this effort. Hopefully this project can be implemented well, and it can function and benefit for local people here.”
  
  The latest CPC Indonesia Design Week has also gained from the diverse group of skilled volunteers who have volunteered to support this effort. Tan Wee Teck, Managing Director of Conint Builders and Engineers, Singapore, and President of the Singapore Plumbing Society, is an example of the senior and experienced professional expertise that has become increasingly involved in the CPC program in recent years.
  
  “I was curious to join a Community Plumbing Challenge project, and have now realized there is a bigger purpose behind this activity,” Tan said. “This is a learning journey for all. The organizers deliberately choose a longer path — a design and community consultation process that educates and enriches the lives of everyone involved in the team. To witness these educational motives firsthand is heartwarming.”

Issues in Untia Village
- The Community Plumbing Challenge (CPC) Indonesia Design Week continued today, with the Design Team back at the team base at the Dalton Hotel, where it reviewed the various design aspects for the new public toilet and wash facility in Untia village, particularly issues around water supply and wastewater management.
  
  “We have now pulled together a lot of background information, so the team know what they need to start from. Designing a system, from the water source right through to the waste: water in, water out,” said Dave Donald, Program Director for Healthabitat, a long-standing IWSH Foundation collaborating partner leading the design process in Untia this week. “If you want the toilet to work, it’s about the whole continuum. So we have been reinforcing that message for the Design Team: it’s not only about the toilet facility in the middle. Get the overall system right, and the facility has a better chance of being there in 10-15 years’ time, still doing its job.”
  
  The Design Team will return to Untia Village on Wednesday, to discuss its initial design concepts with community leaders and other local partners.
  
  “Today, we looked at different considerations for things like water storage and septic tank requirements,” said Fareenha Khan, a Master of Architecture student at the University of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, who is originally from Pakistan. “We are trying to consider all scenarios to make sure future maintenance of the new toilets will be up to the mark. The whole point of today was to list everything and pinpoint the remaining issues. Tomorrow we will go back to talk to the community again and share our initial design ideas.”
  
  The Design Team also received an overview of Indonesian plumbing standards and World Health Organization guidelines around water and sanitation.
  
  “I am happy for this experience, and happy to meet and interact with others from around the world. I have gotten knowledge about plumbing that I would not get in school,” added Muhammad Rezky Fahlevi, a second-year student of chemical industry at SMK-SMTI Makassar (Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan, Sekolah Menengah Teknologi Industri — the industrial technology vocational high school of Makassar).

- The International Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Foundation’s (IWSH) Community Plumbing Challenge (CPC) program launched its latest edition today with the start of Design Week in the coastal village of Kampung Nelayan Untia.
  
  The new program is presented in collaboration with Badan Standardisasi Nasional (BSN), the Indonesian standardization body, and PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia. It will focus on the design and construction of a new public toilet and handwashing facility.
  
  The international Design Team was welcomed to Untia Village in a community ceremony this morning by Ms. Suhaimi A. Kasman, the BSN’s Head of Division for Co-operation, and the Untia Village Head, Mr. Andi Patiroi.
  
  “Participants in this Design Week are from all over Indonesia, and countries such as U.S., Singapore, Australia, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Canada, and Ireland,” Kasman said. “Welcome to Makassar, the capital city of South Sulawesi special to Untia village. I hope you are happy to stay here.
  
  “As the implementation of MOU [Memorandum of Understanding] between BSN and IAPMO, we are collaborating with IWSH to develop a new public toilet facility in Untia. This activity is very useful, and this is the second activity carried out in Indonesia. The first one was held in Cikarang, Bekasi [2017–18].
  
  “The purpose of this project — besides fulfilling the lives of people in Untia village — are that the toilet facility will be built to meet the technical specifications in accordance with healthy and hygienic toilet standards as SNI 8153:2015 about the plumbing system. This standard organizes the specification of plumbing materials, planning, design, installation, additional and maintenance of the plumbing system.
  
  “As the representative of BSN we would like to thank you for the support of all parties, and hopefully this activity can continue on other occasions and in other areas,” Kasman concluded.

- PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia, in cooperation with the Green Product Council Indonesia (GPCI) and the Indonesian Plumbing Association (APIN), hosted a comprehensive three-day Indonesia Sustainable Construction and Plumbing (ISCOP) conference and exposition at Jakarta International Expo.
  
  ISCOP was held in conjunction with Konstruksi Indonesia and Indonesia Infrastructure events, which was opened by Indonesian President Joko Widodo. Centered around the theme “Advancing Sustainable Construction Materials and Plumbing Systems for a Sustainable Future,” the event gathered stakeholders from across the construction and plumbing industries to a develop greener, smarter, safer and more efficient building environment for Indonesia.
  ISCOP sought to support the Indonesian government in its commitment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030, relating specifically to infrastructure, industry, environment, water access and sanitation, education and human resources.
  
  During the event, PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia signed cooperative agreements with several universities throughout the nation to conduct training and certification programs for plumbing specialists, including Udayana University in Bali and Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh. PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia is the only personnel certification body for plumbing skills in Indonesia that meets the requirements of the SNI ISO 17024:2012 standard and is accredited by the National Accreditation Committee (KAN).

This roundtable meeting was a unique opportunity to bring together a wide segment of the water industry in Indonesia. - The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) convened, as part of its contribution to the inaugural Indonesia Sustainable Construction and Plumbing Conference (ISCOP), a high-level roundtable discussion on water and sanitation in Indonesia and the ASEAN region; an event co-located with Indonesia Infrastructure Week at Jakarta International Expo, Nov. 6-8.
  
  “A robust local industry is critical to the development of sustainable water and sanitation solutions,” said Dain Hansen, IAPMO Senior Vice President of Government Relations. “The purpose of this high-level roundtable meeting is to bring together the greatest minds from manufacturing, government, NGOs and other water stakeholders for a vital dialogue in addressing water safety, security, and sanitation issues; to hear about the challenges faced by the region, as well as to explore opportunities within the sector.”

  At the event, IAPMO's charitable foundation, the International Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Foundation (IWSH), unveiled plans for the next phase of the Community Plumbing Challenge (CPC) Indonesia program. The new CPC Indonesia program will be presented in collaboration with Badan Standardisasi Nasional (BSN), the Indonesian standardization body. It will be hosted in the coastal village of Kampung Nelayan Untia, on the outskirts of Makassar, South Sulawesi.
  
  A key agenda item for the discussion was the World Health Organization and UNICEF WASH in Healthcare Facilities initiative, a resolution that was passed at the 72nd World Health Assembly (WHA) in May following a Call to Action from the U.N. Secretary General. As such, IAPMO was pleased to welcome to the roundtable representatives from the NGO community. Industry partners discussed ways in which they could collaborate in Indonesia and the wider ASEAN region to develop greater governance and enforcement processes, improve products and supply chains, and build stronger, skilled labor forces for improved, sustainable and more effective implementation of WASH in Healthcare Facility projects in the coming years.
  
  “This roundtable was a unique opportunity to bring together a wide segment of the water industry in Indonesia,” said Don Johnston, Water.Org, Indonesian Operations Director. “The many challenges faced in WASH in Indonesia include financing for household water and sanitation access and WASH in healthcare facilities. Water.org is committed to water access in Indonesia, and we were thrilled to learn of other partners with whom we can collaborate further.”
  
  While in Indonesia, IAPMO’s staff also had a chance to meet U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Joseph Donovan, as well as Indonesian Minister for Public Works and Housing Basuki Hadimuljono and Indonesian Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Pandjaitan. IAPMO has an ongoing strategic partnership with the U.S. Department of Commerce to promote U.S. exports in Indonesia and throughout southeast Asia.
  
  IAPMO has a long history of partnership in Indonesia. In 2013, IAPMO was the recipient of the U.S. Department of Commerce Market Development Cooperator Program (MDCP) and the USAID Standards Alliance awards for its work with the Indonesian government in developing and implementing new plumbing regulations. As a result of that work, average annual U.S. plumbing exports to Indonesia grew by 85% over the pre-project period — reversing an annual decline in exports. Additionally, IWSH has carried out two major projects in the country providing community water and sanitation facilities at a local park and school.

for Next Community Plumbing Challenge
Program at Indonesian Industry Event
- The International Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Foundation (IWSH) unveiled plans for the next phase of the Community Plumbing Challenge (CPC) Indonesia program during a presentation at the inaugural Indonesia Sustainable Construction and Plumbing Conference (ISCOP). ISCOP was co-located with Konstruksi Indonesia and Indonesia Infrastructure Week at Jakarta International Expo, which took place Nov. 6-8.
  
  The new CPC Indonesia program will be presented in collaboration with Badan Standardisasi Nasional (BSN), the Indonesian standardization body, and PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia. It will be hosted in the coastal village of Kampung Nelayan Untia, on the outskirts of Makassar, South Sulawesi. The project’s initial focus will be the design and construction of a new public toilet and handwashing facility, intended to support ongoing efforts to drive further tourism to the village alongside improving local sanitary conditions for residents and the surrounding community.
  
  “After success of the pilot CPC Indonesia projects, hosted in Cicau Village, West Java, through 2017-18, we are excited to support and enable the growth, and development, of this program — particularly by working together and more closely with BSN, to do so,” said Shirley Dewi, Senior Vice President of PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia and an organizer of the ISCOP event. “We are so pleased the new CPC program has been showcased and received so positively at ISCOP this week, because the whole purpose of this conference has been to bring together professionals from the Indonesian construction and plumbing industries to network and share ideas on how to improve Indonesia’s development. The CPC is a platform that our industry can really get behind, as it opens so many doors for improved technical education and training, awareness around sustainable building codes and standards, and encourages greater behavioral change around public health issues linked to water, sanitation and hygiene.”
  The new CPC Indonesia program commences with a Design Week project in Untia village, which will run from Nov 18-21. Over four days, a skilled international volunteer team comprising plumbers, architects and engineers will collaborate with local community host partners to develop a design and work plan for the new public toilet and handwashing facility, which will then be built to these specifications via a larger Construction Week project in May 2020.
  
  “Design Week is going to bring together local residents, authorities, students and teachers, and combine them with skilled international volunteers from specialist technical backgrounds,” added IWSH International Program Director Seán Kearney. “The team will combine experience and expertise from eight countries — Indonesia, Australia, India, Ireland, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, and the USA. So we are all set for a busy and productive week, which will kick off the next phase of the CPC Indonesia program and will move our collaborations and partnerships here to the next level.”

Set for Kampung Nelayan Untia in

- The International Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Foundation’s (IWSH) next Community Plumbing Challenge Indonesia project will begin in November in the village of Kampung Nelayan Untia, on the outskirts of the port city of Makassar, South Sulawesi. The project will be presented in collaboration with Badan Standardasi Indonesia, the national standardization agency of Indonesia.
  
  The project will be launched during the Indonesia Sustainable Construction and Plumbing Summit (ISCOP), which will be held Nov. 6-8 in conjunction with Konstruksi Indonesia at Jakarta International Expo. Following the collaborative model of previous pilot CPC Indonesia projects, a Design Week will be hosted in Kampung Nelayan Untia during the week of Nov. 18. Subsequently, a Construction Week will be hosted in May 2020 (exact dates to be determined), after the passing of the annual wet season in the Sulawesi region.
  
  The initiative will focus on construction of a new public toilet and hand-washing facility. Local authorities have been investing in the Untia village community — which is home to about 1,200 residents — by improving infrastructure and services in recent years, with particular focus on targeting tourism growth and better living conditions for residents through improved water supply and sanitation. The construction of this new public toilet and hand-washing facility is seen to be a key part of these ongoing efforts to improve public health and hygiene in the village, both for local families and for visitors.
  
  The pilot CPC Indonesia project (CPC2017) was delivered across three separate projects between August 2017 and March 2018 and brought improved drinking water and sanitation facilities to a public elementary school in Cicau Village, Cikarang, Bekasi (West Java). The upgraded facilities were designed and built referencing the new Indonesian Plumbing Standard, SNI 8153:2015, while incorporating expertise from IWSH partner Healthabitat O/S that was gained from the Healthabitat Nepal Village Sanitation and School Toilet Construction program.

IAPMO Group Indonesia has been appointed by the Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Industry as an accredited conformity assessment body with the capability of product certifier and testing laboratory for SNI certification of the SNI ISO 13006:2010 Ceramic Tiles Standard. This appointment is based on Minister of Industry Decree No. 42 Year 2018.
  
  The official appointment means that PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia can now offer “one stop certification” to SNI ISO 13006:2010 for domestic and overseas manufacturers of ceramic tiles. The advantage of certification through PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia is assurance of faster lead time as product testing is performed by IAPMO’s own laboratory. At the moment, PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia is the only privately-owned testing laboratory for SNI ISO 13006:2010 in Indonesia. Further, through cooperation with the Green Product Council Indonesia, ceramic tiles manufacturers can also obtain Indonesian Green Label Certification concurrently, making it even more convenient.
  
  In accordance with the Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Industry Regulation Number 85/M-IND/PER/12/2016, all ceramic tiles must be certified to this standard in order to be sold in the Indonesia market.

President’s ‘E’ Award for Export Service
- The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) was honored today with the President’s “E” Award for Export Service by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross at the U.S. Department of Commerce headquarters in Washington, D.C.
  
  Created by Executive Order by President Kennedy in 1961, the President’s “E” Award recognizes persons, firms, or organizations that contribute significantly in the effort to increase United States exports. IAPMO’s efforts within Indonesia have been recognized as exemplifying the kind of work the award seeks to spotlight.
  
  “The ‘E’ Awards Committee was very impressed with IAPMO’s success in supporting foreign adoption of U.S. developed and internationally recognized plumbing standards to open new export markets in Asia,” Ross said. “The organization’s opening of a testing and certification facility in Jakarta to facilitate the exports of U.S. plumbing products to Indonesia was also particularly notable. IAPMO’s achievements have undoubtedly contributed to national export expansion efforts that support the U.S. economy and create American jobs.”
  
  IAPMO Executive Vice President of Advocacy and Research Pete DeMarco, Senior Vice President of Government Relations Dain Hansen, and Director of Government Relations Christopher Lindsay attended the ceremony and accepted the award from Secretary Ross.
  
  Five years ago, IAPMO received a $296,000 award from the U.S. Commerce Department’s International Trade Administration’s (ITA) Market Development Cooperator Program (MDCP) intended to increase the competitiveness of the U.S. plumbing supply industry abroad by generating exports to Indonesia. The Strategic Partnership — the only of its kind between ITA and a U.S. plumbing code development organization — has yielded noteworthy results. A 2013 memorandum of understanding between IAPMO and Indonesia’s National Standardization Agency resulted in a comprehensive body of regulations — SNI 8153:2015, Plumbing Systems for Buildings — being adopted as the technical basis for Indonesia’s water/sanitation infrastructure. These regulations are improving public safety and the longevity of Indonesia’s infrastructure while also creating greater opportunities for the sale of U.S. plumbing products and services in the Indonesian market. As a result, total annualized U.S. plumbing exports to Indonesia increased by 85% over the pre-project period baseline.
  
  The partnership is also playing a key role in helping the U.S. government achieve the vision laid out in the 2017 U.S. Government Global Water Strategy. The strategy focuses on steps that can be taken to sustainably grow water and sanitation services globally and recognizes that “water can be a means of strengthening governance, civil society engagement, and resilience at all levels.” It further states that the “United States benefits directly from engaging on international water issues” and that part of the overall vision of the strategy is to “open up international markets to U.S. technologies and approaches.”
  
  The partnership is an example of how the U.S. government and private sector can work together to realize the vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific region in partnership with foreign markets. The work of this partnership not only advances fair and reciprocal trade for U.S. plumbing exports, but also advances high-quality infrastructure development for Asia — a region that needs roughly $26 trillion of infrastructure investment by 2030, according to the U.S. Commerce Department.
  
  “We are thrilled to be recognized with the President’s ‘E’ Award in recognition of our work to improve U.S. manufacturer competitiveness throughout key regions of the world,” said IAPMO CEO GP Russ Chaney. “Our work in collaboration with the Commerce Department, ITA, and other supportive entities within Indonesia has been a major success. We’ll continue our efforts to promote U.S. technology throughout key regions and markets around the world.”

Indonesia APPIN Awareness Event
- PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia, in partnership with Indonesian plumbing association APPIN, today held an event to increase awareness of the importance of good sanitation and plumbing systems, especially for buildings with large capacities that are used by the general public such as hotels, malls, airports and restaurants.
  
  IAPMO also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing for the inspection of the health aspects of buildings and residential housing in relation to the issuance of building occupancy permits. Additionally, IAPMO Man was introduced as IAPMO’s mascot at the beginning of the event. APPIN, an association with members comprising companies in the plumbing industry, was inaugurated during the event.
  
  IAPMO Group CEO GP Russ Chaney opened the fifth annual event, which was held at the Grand Mercure Hotel in Jakarta and included a performance by SDN Cicau 02 students. Through the 2017 Community Plumbing Challenge, SDN Cicau 02 received eight toilets and a handwashing station. IAPMO also gave the school and surrounding community the gift of a sound system.
  
  The United Nations has 17 Sustainable Development Goals, one of which is clean water and sanitation for all by 2030. This requires an investment in adequate infrastructure, the creation of safe sanitation facilities, and the promotion of cleanliness at every level.
  
  During the first session, speakers from the Ministry of Forestry and Environmental, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, and BSN, Indonesia’s national standardization agency, discussed SNI 8153:2015, Plumbing Systems for Buildings , as one of the tools to be used in support of SDG 2030. The second session began with speakers from the Construction Services Development Board (LPJK), Politeknik Negeri Jakarta, and the University of Indonesia addressing the topic of good plumbing systems in buildings. That was followed by a discussion on the best practices on the installation and maintenance of plumbing products to support a good plumbing system that included representatives from plumbing product manufacturers Rucika and Pralon, as well as Bina Nusantara University.
  For the first time in the event’s five-year history, IAPMO and APPIN arranged several activities that were presented as one-day seminars with exhibitions.“PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia wants Indonesians to understand more about the importance of a good plumbing system, for personal consumption as well as the public interest,” said Ken Wijaya, Executive Vice President of PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia. “Plumbing systems also have an impact on the health and safety of the community. This is why IAPMO is partnering with governmental, industry and educational institutions to continuously create awareness on the importance of plumbing standardization.”

- The Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Industry has officially appointed PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia as a Conformity Assessment Body with the capabilities of Product Certifier and Testing Laboratory for SNI certification of the SNI 03-0797-2006 Seated Water Closet Standard. This appointment is based on Minister of Industry Decree No. 44 Year 2017.
  
  The official appointment means that PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia is able to offer testing and certification to SNI 03-0797-2006 for domestic and overseas manufacturers of seated water closets. Because PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia conducts testing at its own facility, manufacturers are assured a faster lead time when it comes to certification. PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia is the only privately owned testing laboratory for SNI 03-0797-2006 in Indonesia.

Green Label Indonesia Certification
- Jakarta, Indonesia – PT IAPMO Group Indonesia and the Green Product Council Indonesia (GPCI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) appointing PT IAPMO Group Indonesia as a Verification Body for Green Label Indonesia certification.
  
  As a result of the MoU, PT IAPMO Group Indonesia will provide product testing and verification inspection for manufacturers applying to obtain Green Label Indonesia certification.
  
  The MoU was signed Oct. 19 by Hendrata Atmoko, GPCI Chairman, and Shirley Dewi, Senior Vice President of PT IAPMO Group Indonesia.
  
  “As to our firm commitment to the government and nation to establish a green and healthy building program in Indonesia,” Atmoko said, “GPCI has started developing the rating tools for the building materials used in every building, both residential and high-rise buildings. This is especially important considering that 80 percent of the population lives and/or works in these types of buildings. The reason GPCI appoints PT IAPMO Group Indonesia is because among all the candidates that GPCI reviewed, PT IAPMO Group Indonesia is the most credible and the most competent in fulfilling the objective of GPCI. Complete CPC2017 Program at
Host School in Indonesia
- The Community Plumbing Challenge 2017 Legacy Project, which will complete the sustainable plan for improved drinking water and sanitation facilities at a public elementary school in Indonesia, will take place March 6-13. The dates coincide with World Plumbing Day, celebrated annually on March 11.
  
  CPC2017 took place at the elementary school Sekolah Dasar Negeri (SDN) Cicau 02 in Cicau Village, Cikarang, Bekasi (West Java). The program was delivered in two parts: a Design Week from July 31 to Aug. 3, 2017, and a Construction Week from Nov. 9 to 15, 2017.
  
  In 2017, Indonesia became the third country in as many years to host the international Community Plumbing Challenge program, following India in 2015 and South Africa in 2016. The event brings together design, construction and education as a means of improving public health in regions where communities are still threatened by a lack of basic sanitation and safe drinking water systems.
  
  The upcoming Legacy Project will complete renovation of the remaining toilet facilities at SDN Cicau 02 and will include construction of another hand-washing area for the second building at the school. This work represents Phase Two of the overall plan developed by the first CPC2017 International Team during Design Week.
  
  On completion of the CPC2017 Legacy Project, more than 60 people will have participated in the program, from backgrounds as diverse as plumbing to project management, engineering to architecture, construction to coaching, and media to public health. In yet another new development of the Community Plumbing Challenge collaborative team model, the upcoming Legacy Project will also incorporate local contractors into the fold.
  
  “Engaging local tradespeople was key in preparing the site for our first Construction Week,” IWSH Project Manager Grant Stewart said. “Ahead of that International Team assignment last November, a team of Cicau-based contractors carried out groundworks at the school in accordance with our Design Week plan: digging trenches, preparing concrete footings and initial brickwork. Their work was vital and meant our International Team could really hit the ground running on arrival to start work on the new toilet, hand-washing and wastewater facilities.
  
  “For the final phase – the Legacy Project – we have decided to involve these local contractors again, only this time, as part of the International Team itself: to work alongside us for the duration of our week onsite. We believe they will provide the young students and apprentices with a unique perspective on the plumbing and construction work being carried out, and hopefully, vice versa. A skills exchange like no other! We have seen this approach used by IWSH partner Healthabitat O/S in their Village Sanitation Program in Nepal, so are keen to learn how the involvement of more local tradespeople can enhance our Community Plumbing Challenge project teams.”
  
  The CPC2017 Legacy Project will once again feature students from the local vocational school system working alongside international peers. Four 11th-grade students from vocational school Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan 01, Jakarta will join three plumbing apprentices and one construction teacher representing PICAC – the Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre – from Victoria, Australia.

Challenge Construction Week Set
to Begin in Indonesia
- The first Community Plumbing Challenge Construction Week, the second half of the Community Plumbing Challenge 2017 (CPC2017) program, will begin Thursday in Cicau Village in Cikarang, Bekasi (West Java), Indonesia. The international Community Plumbing Challenge brings together design, construction and education as action for improving public health in regions where communities are still threatened by a lack of basic sanitation and safe drinking water systems.
  
  The first part of CPC2017, Design Week, was held from July 31 to Aug. 3 at Sekolah Dasar Negeri (SDN; “Public Elementary School”) Cicau 02. During Design Week, an International Team comprising young plumbers, plumbing engineers and architects from Indonesia, India, Australia and the United States completed a surveying and design process over four days in full consultation with school management and with further input from teachers and schoolchildren. A sustainable upgrade solution for water supply, wastewater and handwashing at the school was the objective of this collaboration, and the resulting work plans will be implemented by an expanded International Team during Construction Week. The project will be delivered in full collaboration with the local community from Nov. 9 to 15.
  
  “We are excited to welcome several of the young Design Week participants back for a second time, to Construction Week; many of them have told us that they have ‘caught the bug’, and want to do all they can to support the work through to completion,” said Project Manager Grant Stewart. “The combined skillset of our CPC2017 International Team has now been expanded to include bricklayers, welders, carpenters and tilers alongside our plumbers and plumbing engineers. We are looking forward to what will be an intensive, challenging but ultimately rewarding Construction Week. From the moment we touch down on Wednesday, November 8, the team will be reminded not only what we are here to do, but why we are here to do it.”

Annual Education Conference
- Jakarta Selatan, Indonesia – More than 150 people on Thursday attended the fourth- annual IAPMO Indonesia Education Conference, an event that aims to promote the importance of good plumbing systems in improving the health and safety of Indonesian citizens, safeguarding the environment, and boosting the Indonesian economy.
  
  The conference began with IAPMO Group CEO GP Russ Chaney announcing that this year’s Community Plumbing Challenge will be held at the SD Negeri Cicau 02 school in Cicau Village in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia. It will be presented in two parts — a “Design Week” in August and a “Construction Week” in November. CPC2017 will be presented by the International Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Foundation, in association with the World Plumbing Council.
  
  Chaney attended the event along with Shirley Dewi, Senior Vice President of PT IAPMO Group Indonesia, and Ken Wijaya, Executive Vice President of PT IAPMO Group Indonesia.
  
  “I was once again delighted and honored to celebrate World Plumbing Day with our colleagues from BSN (the Indonesian standards agency) and the U.S. Embassy and Department of Commerce here in Jakarta,” Chaney said. “This celebration of World Plumbing Day has once again given us the ability to stress the importance of access to clean water and safe sanitation systems while ensuring a positive impact on environmental concerns.   Also at the event, BSN Deputy Director General for Research and Cooperation on Standardization I Nyoman Supriyatna presented Chaney with IAPMO’s ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO/IEC 17065 certificates of accreditation from Komite Akreditasi Nasional (KAN).
  
  Supriyatna and Brian McFeeters, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, also offered opening remarks at the conference, which included educational sessions on the inherent value of good plumbing systems; why standardization of plumbing systems is important; and key technical elements of SNI 8153:2015, Plumbing Systems for Buildings — the national standard for plumbing that Indonesia released in March 2015 as part of the nation’s World Plumbing Day celebration — along with the importance of purchasing SNI-certified products.
  
  “As we know, BSN, Ministry for Public Works and Public Housing, and IAPMO have been working together to develop the SNI:8153:2015 standard of plumbing systems in buildings,” Supriyatna said. “The SNI 8153:2015 is our commitment to ensure citizens’ protection in water supply and sanitation, and improve citizens’ health.”
  
  “The Department of Commerce is delighted to have facilitated a grant supporting IAPMO’s work in Indonesia, which not only provides citizens with the basic right of clean water and safe sanitation, but also presents export opportunities for U.S. companies,” McFeeters said.

Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia
- Jakarta, Indonesia – Cicau Village in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, will host this year’s international Community Plumbing Challenge (CPC), IAPMO Group CEO GP Russ Chaney announced today at the opening of the fourth annual IAPMO Indonesia Education Conference in Jakarta.
  
  Indonesia becomes the third country to host the CPC, following India in 2015 and South Africa in 2016. Top young apprentices and professionals representing four or five different countries — including Indonesia – are expected to participate, joining forces to form a long-term international collaboration that will deliver improved sanitation infrastructure and facilities in the Cicau area and others like it. In an exciting new development from previous editions, CPC2017 will be presented in two parts — a “Design Week” in August and a “Construction Week” in November.
  
  CPC2017 will be presented by the International Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Foundation in association with the World Plumbing Council. The project will be based at local school SD Negeri Cicau 02, with a range of other promotional and participatory activities planned across the village for the duration of the event.
  
  Speaking in Jakarta today, Chaney highlighted the CPC’s role in spearheading the mission of the newly established IWSH Foundation.
  “IWSH is now in place to align efforts and extend the great work of organizations, governments and industry working across the water, sanitation and hygiene sector,” Chaney said, “while the CPC targets direct impact in the heart of communities where water systems are unsafe or unsustainable. Combined, the two platforms offer huge potential for improving living conditions and public health for specific areas in need, so we are particularly excited to launch our newest program here in Indonesia this year to continue building bridges across our growing network of local and international partners.”

About Plumbing, Sanitation in
Celebration of World Plumbing Day
- Jakarta Timur, Indonesia – On March 18 officials from IAPMO and the PT IAPMO Group Indonesia visited more than 200 children at Yayasan Rahmatan Lil-Alamin orphanage, teaching them about the importance of plumbing, sanitation and water conservation in celebration of World Plumbing Day.
  
  Shirley Dewi, Senior Vice President of PT IAPMO Group Indonesia, and Ken Wijaya, Executive Vice President of PT IAPMO Group Indonesia, delivered presentations at the event, which revolved around the World Plumbing Council’s March 11 observance of World Plumbing Day and included a poster contest and coloring contest. The winners of the contest were announced during the event and will be recognized during the fourth annual education conference commemorating World Plumbing Day on March 30 in Balai Kartini, Jakarta.
  
  The purpose of the social event at the orphanage in Jakarta Timur was to provide education about the importance of good plumbing, sanitation and water conservation to young children, as they are the future generation and need to install good plumbing systems and adequate sanitation due to the limited amount of water that may be consumed by humans.
  
  “IAPMO has been working with Yayasan Rahmatan Lil-Alamin for four years now, teaching kids the importance of plumbing and sanitation,” Dewi said. “The children have been very receptive and involved in the process, and have participated in our celebration by sharing their understanding of the importance of plumbing and sanitation through song, play, and poem. In fact, one of the songs they created has become an opening anthem for our World Plumbing Day celebration.”

  Wijaya agreed that it is important to teach children about the importance of good plumbing, sanitation and water conservation. “As IAPMO continues its work promoting the standardization of plumbing systems throughout Indonesia, it is important that we get children invested in the plumbing process to ensure future generations have access to safe, reliable sanitation systems, and healthy drinking water,” Wijaya said.
  
  Indonesia released a new national standard for plumbing — SNI 8153:2015, Plumbing Systems for Buildings — on March 18, 2015, as part of the nation’s World Plumbing Day celebration. SNI 8153:2015 will be included in the guidelines for water conservation of GREENSHIP rating systems, a Green Building Council Indonesia program.

Indonesia Receives ISO/IEC 17025
and 17065 Accreditations
- The IAPMO Group’s product testing laboratory and certification facility in Jakarta, Indonesia, has achieved ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO/IEC 17065 accreditations from Komite Akreditasi Nasional (KAN), Indonesia’s national accreditation body, an important milestone following the facility’s opening last May. PT IAPMO Group Indonesia’s state-of-the-art laboratory and certification office in east Jakarta’s Lippo Cikarang, offers testing and certification services for plumbing product manufacturers in support of the implementation of Indonesia’s national plumbing standard, SNI 8153:2015, Plumbing Systems for Buildings, which was developed with the support of IAPMO utilizing the provisions of IAPMO’s flagship Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC^®).

  SNI 8153:2015 was released in March 2015, ushering in a new era of standardization for plumbing practices and products on behalf of the nation of more than 250 million. PT IAPMO Group Indonesia’s facility enables local manufacturers to have their products tested and evaluated to demonstrate compliance with the provisions of the plumbing standard.

Officials Work to Bring Nation’s
National Standard for Plumbing
from Classroom to Real World
- Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia — IAPMO and Indonesian government officials collaborated on two events this week whose joint goal was to take the country’s national standard for plumbing — SNI 8153:2015, Plumbing Systems for Buildings — from the classroom to the real world.
  
  Both corporate social responsibility projects seek to strengthen the relationship between IAPMO and the Indonesian government in order to enhance their support for the needs of the Indonesian plumbing and sanitation industry and aid in the development of Indonesia’s national standards for health, safety, and the environment.
  
  On Tuesday, officials from IAPMO and Dinas Kebersihan Dan Pertamanan Kota Semarang (Agency of Cleanliness and Parks for the City of Semarang) attended a ceremony for a public restroom in Parang Kusumo Tlogosari Park in the city of Semarang, Central Java province. Shirley Dewi, Senior Vice President of IAPMO R&T’s Quality Assurance and Client Services, handed off the key to the public restroom and signed the “prasasti” stone on IAPMO’s behalf. Ken Wijaya, Executive Vice President of IAPMO R&T Lab, and Umi Fadilla and Fadjar Sukotjo, Sales Representatives of IAPMO in Indonesia, also attended, as did Mr. Budi Prakosa, Head of City Park Divisions; Mrs. Nurhasanah Sutjahjo and Mr. Atang Sarbini, representatives from the Center of Research and Development of the Ministry of Public Works and Human Settlements; as well as representatives from the local regional authorities.
  
  The project is intended to serve as a template for standardization that can be replicated. IAPMO provided the technical expert and assisted with the necessary funding to ensure the initial location’s success. IAPMO staff worked with the Indonesian government to identify the appropriate location for the project, set the timeline, and select the contractors.
  
  “We are very excited to be working with the Indonesian government on this project,” Dewi said. “As buildings continue to be constructed utilizing SNI 8153:2015, the health and safety of more and more Indonesian residents will be protected through improved access to clean, safe water and sanitation.”
  
  On Monday, IAPMO and Dinas Cipta Karya Dan Tata Ruang Provinsi Jawa Tengah (The Central Java Province of City Planning) held an event to train 18 people to implement SNI 8153:2015 in the field. Wijaya, along with Sutjahjo and Sarbini from Indonesia’s Center of Research and Development of the Ministry of Public Works and Human Settlements, provided the training.
  
  “IAPMO is committed to providing plumbing education and training for SNI 8153:2015 to give officials and professionals throughout Indonesia the necessary tools to be able to read, understand, interpret, engage, and apply provisions of the new standard,” Wijaya said.

Opens Laboratory and Certification
Office in Bekasi, Jawa Barat
- The IAPMO Group Wednesday celebrated the grand opening of PT IAPMO Group Indonesia’s state-of-the-art laboratory and certification office in Lippo Cikarang — Bekasi (Jakarta), Jawa Barat, Indonesia. The facility will offer testing and certification services for plumbing product manufacturers in support of Indonesia’s newly adopted national plumbing standard, SNI 8153:2015, Plumbing Systems for Buildings.
  
  The ceremony was held during the third annual Water for Indonesia Now (WIN) Celebrates Indonesian Plumbing Systems Standardization at the Ritz-Carlton Jakarta in Mega Kuningan, Indonesia.
  
  On May 17, IAPMO held an invitation-only gathering at the new facility that included a ribbon cutting and a special tour. Attendees included Chairman of BSN Prof. Dr. Ir. Bambang Prasetya, M.Sc., Representative of Ministry of Public Works and Human Settlements Ir. Nurhasanah Sutjahjo MM, and U.S. Embassy Commercial Officer Julie Carducci, as well as IAPMO CEO Russ Chaney, Executive Vice President of IAPMO R&T Lab Ken Wijaya, and Senior Vice President of Quality Assurance and Client Services of IAPMO R&T Shirley Dewi.
  
  “We’re certainly delighted that The IAPMO Group has completed a three-year effort in collaboration with both the U.S. and Indonesian governments to assist Indonesia in creating enhanced public health and safety provisions via the creation of a world-class plumbing code,” Chaney said. “We were very pleased to have received excellent cooperation and support from the BSN, which is Indonesia’s national standards body. We look forward to beginning the testing and certifying of plumbing products, which will facilitate compliance with the new requirements contained in the new BSN national plumbing standard.”
  
  Indonesia released a new national standard for plumbing — SNI 8153:2015, Plumbing Systems for Buildings — on March 18, 2015, as part of the nation’s World Plumbing Day celebration. Arief Sabaruddin, CES, Head of the Center of Research and Development of Human Settlement, Agency for Research and Development of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing of the Republic of Indonesia, said, “We are hoping that today’s activities can support the implementation process of SNI 8153:2015, Plumbing Systems for Buildings, as well as providing the maximum benefits for fulfilling the needs of the people toward good plumbing systems that support health and safety, including peace of mind during the construction of buildings, and in conjunction with the Indonesian Law Number 20 Year 2014 (Undang-Undang Indonesia No. 20 Tahun 2014) regarding standardization and conformity assessment; specifically clause 24, in which this standard should be mandatory.”
  
  Brian McFeeters, Deputy Chief of Mission from the U.S. Embassy, said, “The U.S. Embassy is proud to be part of this launch, as U.S. companies have a lot to offer to support this new environmentally friendly plumbing standard.   Wijaya, who heads The IAPMO Group’s testing program in the United States, said, “This facility, which is the first one dedicated to testing and certification of plumbing products in Indonesia, was established to support the implementation effort of SNI 8153:2015 and to assist in promoting the health and safety of Indonesian citizens through good plumbing systems.”
  
  Dewi added that IAPMO will continue to work with Indonesian officials to promote standardization with the goal of bringing clean, safe water and reliable sanitation to everybody in Indonesia. “The opening of the lab and certification office in Cikarang-Bekasi truly shows IAPMO’s commitment to the Republic of Indonesia, and is an essential part of that effort,” she said.

- The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO^®) and the National Standardization Agency of Indonesia (BSN) on March 18 at the Ritz-Carlton, Jakarta, will co-host an industry and media event to bring awareness about World Plumbing Day and introduce the result of their joint efforts, the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for plumbing systems.
  
  The event, revolving around the World Plumbing Council’s (WPC) annual World Plumbing Day — March 11, Every Year, Everywhere — will celebrate the successful development of the first Indonesian National Standard for plumbing — SNI 8513:2015, Plumbing Systems for Buildings — highlighting the need for standardization across the plumbing industry, from standards to certification, and how this document will have an immediate, lasting impact on every citizen of Indonesia. Scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with lunch and refreshments provided, the event will feature opening remarks by Sudhakaran Nair, WPC chairman; GP Russ Chaney, The IAPMO Group CEO; Kristen Bauer, deputy chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy Jakarta; Prof. Dr. Bambang Prasetya, BSN chairman; Saleh Husin, minister of Industry; Hanif Dhakiri, minister of Manpower; and Basuki Hadimuljono, minister of Public Works and Housings.

World Plumbing Day Events
in Indonesia
- CEO GP Russ Chaney headlined a contingent of IAPMO senior executives who traveled to Indonesia to celebrate World Plumbing Day at events March 10 and 11.
  
  Chaney was accompanied by Ken Wijaya, senior director of IAPMO R&T Lab; Shirley Dewi, director of Quality Assurance and Management Systems Registration Services for IAPMO R&T; Megan Lehtonen, vice president of International Business Development for IAPMO; and staff members from IAPMO’s Jakarta office. The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta was also well represented, as Acting Ambassador Kristen Bauer attended the March 10 event; Commercial Officer Margaret Shu Teasdale was on hand for both days’ events; and David Gossack, senior commercial officer and commercial counselor, attended the March 11 festivities.
  
  On March 10, IAPMO hosted an educational presentation for more than 80 children at Yayasan Rahmatan Lil-Amin Jakarta Timur, an orphanage in Jakarta, to teach them about how proper plumbing ensures people have access to clean and safe water and sanitation. A PowerPoint presentation taught the children about the importance of water and how more than 1 billion people around the world do not have access to drinkable water, 2.6 billion do not have proper toilets, and how dirty water is blamed for more than 3 million children’s deaths each year. Dewi said the children were very responsive to the presentation, and the children even surprised them by writing and performing a song about how important it is not to waste water.
  
  “The song they wrote and performed defining the importance of water was something we didn’t expect coming into the event,” she said. “They greeted us warmly and we were very touched by it.”
  
  On March 11 – World Plumbing Day – IAPMO and Badan Standardisasi Nasional (BSN), Indonesia’s national standardization agency, co-hosted an industry and media event to bring awareness about World Plumbing Day and their joint efforts to develop, implement and enforce an Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for plumbing systems through the adoption of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC^®).
  
  “For well over a decade, IAPMO has had the benefit of working with BSN to develop a national standard based on IAPMO’s flagship, the UPC,” Chaney said. “We were thrilled to have the acting ambassador, as well as David Gossack, on hand to support IAPMO’s effort.”
  
  More than 150 people came out for the event, which was covered by Indonesian television and other media, and industry professionals and representatives from various Indonesian ministries participated in a question-and-answer session at the end.
  Wijaya said he has been very appreciative of the support and cooperation IAPMO has received from BSN during the development process, and the event drove home how important having mandatory standards is for those involved in plumbing and sanitation in Indonesia.
  
  “This event gave me a firsthand look at how much industry and manufacturers want the standards outlined in the SNI to be mandatory,” he said. “I hope the ministries take that step to make it part of the system.”
